History

A long time ago, Governor Boyles is a sitio of barangay San Isidro, Pilar, Bohol. In 1940, the late Feleciano Flores, had an image of Saint Isidore. He donated it to all residents of the said area, and because of that, he was chosen by the people as their leader. They agreed to make a barrio because of the area’s location. The jurisdictional boundaries are the areas of Ubay, bounded at Bugtong Kawayan and Babag Creek in the town of Dagohoy and Ubay. So they named the new barrio, San Isidro, in honor of the patron saint and it is under the jurisdiction of Ubay.

Since the said barangay had many flowers, they agreed to have a sitio, one sitio named Sampungan, now barangay Gov. Boyles, under the leadership of the late Alfonso Monterola.

This happened when Pilar, Bohol became a separate town, barangay San Isidro and its sitios was under Pilar. When an area mapping was made, it was within the jurisdiction of Ubay. Then Pilar Mayor, Marcos Auguis earnestly requested Mayor Ricardo Boyles of Ubay to let San Isidro be in the jurisdiction of Pilar. The Mayor of Ubay agreed but sitio Sampungan shall remain and be separated because he plans to make sitio Sampungan a memorable barangay.

When the application of the residents was still in process and until it was approved, the OIC Governor of Bohol then was the late of Gov. Eutiquio Boyles was made a regular barangay under the town of Ubay.

Government

There are seven puroks or units in the barangay manned by the elected kagawads including the Punong Barangay or Barangay chairman.

Alfonso Monterola became the first Teniente del Barrio of barangay Governor Boyles from 1951-54. Francisco Pacional succeeded him and served form 1954-56, Rodolfo Monterola followed and served 1956-62. Alfonso Monterola, served for another term from 1958-60 as Teniente del Barrio.
